1992 Gibson Dove

Serial # 92092018. Introduced in 1962, the Dove occupied the top of Gibson's pricelist alongside the Hummingbird and J-200. A well-ornamented guitar, the original Dove models featured maple back and sides, cherry sunburst finish, gold Tune-o-Matic bridge insert, and pearl dove inlays in the pickguard and bridge wings. The guitar's maple back and sides, long scale neck, and adjustable bridge combined to create an instrument with a distinct voice, but the high-price left the sale numbers low, and the Dove remains one of the more obscure acoustics Gibson has ever offered.

In the design of the re-issued instrument, Gibson thankfully had the good sense to drop the Tune-o-Matic bridge in favor of a drop-in saddle, and built the top more lightly than the 1960's versions, using scalloped bracing and a small maple bridge plate. The guitar sounds much more lively and big than the originals, and that's a good thing! This example is in excellent condition but for a repaired crack at the pickguard/soundhole margin.

Set up and frets are excellent, very little playwear, no finish blemishes. 1-11/16" nut, round neck, 25.4" scale.
