c.1967 Gibson Hummingbird
Among the most iconic Gibson flat tops of the 1960's, the Hummingbird was the choice of Keith Richards and was used to write some of the biggest hits in the Rolling Stones catalogue. The rest is pretty much history, and the Hummingbird remains one of Gibson's most famous models.
This example dates from around 1967, and is in remarkably good condition and otherwise original but for replaced bridge and plate. Excellent neck and frets, original Kluson tuners, and largely unworn original finish. Very comfortable and fast-feeling rounded neck carve with 1-9/16” nut width and 25.5” scale. Natural finished spruce top, cherry red mahogany back and sides. White bindings, pearl inlays, Indian rosewood fingerboard and bridge. The guitar is crack-free but for a small repaired chip in between the bridge and pickguard. "2' stamped in the back of the headstock for a factory finish flaw that's since been lost to time.
Excellent set-up, lovely warm tone with subtle chime through the trebles and that classic 60's compression added by the adjustable bridge. It's a really great strummer, and a perfect singing companion.
