1954 Gibson J-50

An exceptionally good sounding, small-guard Gibson J-50 in nearly perfect condition. The guitar has classic Gibson warmth and mid-range focus, a lovely woody-tinged set of overtones, excellent string balance and volume, and scalloped-braced openness.

Apart from a clean neck reset, refret, and aged saddle by Folkway's Mark Stutman, this J-50 is completely original and unmodified. There are no repairs to the guitar's bracing, bridgeplate or bridge; and the tuners, nut, and finish are all factory stock. There is a short 2” repaired crack on the guitar's back, but no top or side cracks. The original finish is remarkably clean as well; showing light playwear at the soundhole and on the back of the neck. The guitar scores very high marks in all categories; it would likely be hard to locate a finer looking, better sounding, and better playing J-50 on the vintage guitar market today.

Mahogany back and sides, scalloped-braced Sitka spruce top with perfect arch and no deflection. Original small maple bridge plate, full height bridge, and full height aged bone saddle. Round neck carve with rosewood fingerboard, original nut, and new frets. Original Kluson tuners work well. Tuner buttons and bridge pins have been replaced with Antique Acoustic replicas.

With deluxe hardshell case
