1976 Gretsch 7670 Country Gentleman

Finding a near-mint condition Gretsch Country Gentleman like this 1976 model is exciting enough, but add to the package an original Chet Atkins signature hiding on the underside of the guitar's pickguard and you've got everyone at Folkway all worked up!

This guitar's previous owner is a long time Chet Atkins fan and brought the pickguard of his Gretsch with him to a Chet show in 1999 in hopes of having it signed. Chet was already quite ill at that time, but was still happy to sign his name for his fans. Atkins died in 2001.

The Gretsch 6122 Country Gentleman was revamped in the early 1970's and given the new model number of 7670. Thin 16” hollow body with F holes, Filter'tron pickups, Bigsby tailpiece and gold hardware; bound ebony fingerboard with thumbprint inlays. This example is about as perfect as we can imagine, with no playwear, perfect neck angle, excellent in-shop set-up, and amazing pickups. No changed parts or repairs.

Great feeling C-shaped neck, cool wire arm Bigsby, and well dressed frets.
