1962 Fender Stratocaster

Pots dated 1962, neck dated April 1962. An exceptional, 100% original, one-owner guitar. This slab-board Stratocaster was brought to Folkway by its original owner who purchased the instrument new some five and a half decades ago. The guitar has been very carefully tended to over the years and comes complete with a set-up service order from the 1970's, its original serial numbered Fender Warranty card, original curly wire, period Bobby Lee strap, and original export case.

The guitar is completely original and without modification of any kind. All solder joints are factory original, as is the finish, frets, nut, tuners, and all plastic. The pickups are unmodified, and none of the electrical components or wiring has been altered in any way. There isn't a replaced screw.

The guitar's owner was a professional gigging musician through the mid 1960's and 70's, and used his guitar throughout that period. He was careful to wipe it down after every use, and clearly took very good care of it. The original frets show moderate wear in the first position and even but lighter wear up the neck. The neck's finish is play-worn along the sides, and the body shows finish chips typical of a lightly worn guitar. While not in mint condition this Stratocaster is not too far off of an A+.

The instrument weighs in at 7.5 Lbs, Pickup DC values are 5.88 / 5.76 / 4.82 kOhms (N/M/B). Original switch and pots work well, tuners function perfectly, original nut is well adjusted and has never been removed, and all the clay dots are intact. There is a crack in the center of the fingerboard from the 15th fret on that remains unrepaired and has no effect on playability. Truss rod works well. Set up in our shop.

The guitar sounds fantastic. Its acoustically rich and resonant, which always means good things. Plugged in, the guitar sounds heavenly. It's clean, bright, and even, with a dynamic response and incredible neck position warmth. The neck has a classic 62 feel, and plays really nicely. Not too big or small.

A particularly exciting Slab-board Stratocaster.
