1961 Gretsch 6131 Jet Firebird

Serial # 42057. The Jet Firebird was introduced in 1955, and offered another color option in the popular Jet series. The Firebird featured an "Oriental Red" top and black back side, but was otherwise identical to the Duo-jet. By 1961 the Jets became double-cutaways, and soon thereafter would change again to feature the Burns vibrato and gold hardware. This '61 thankfully has its original G-brand solid tailpiece and chrome hardware. The Jet Firebird's red top is a lacquer finish over the hollow body; by contrast, many of the other coloured or sparkle finished Jets were built with a film of plastic drum-wrap material.

The guitar is in quite fine condition, and is original but for a newer bridge and changed tuners. Frets and wire harness are unmodified and in good working order, Filter'Tron pickups sound great, and the neck angle is excellent. The guitar has been set-up by us, and plays easily and fairly cleanly up the neck despite frets that are starting to show their age. We've strung it with 11-49 strings. The original finish shows the standard crazing and some edge-wear, but there's no excessive playwear or buckle rash to mention. A social security number has been etched into the back of the headstock. There are chips on both sides of the headstock related to the tuner installation.

24.5" scale, 1-11/16" width at the zero-fret. Classic Gretsch round C neck carve. The guitar is piles of fun to play, nice and light, and wonderfully resonant.
