Collings MF5

The Collings MF5 may very well be the best thing that's happened to F style mandolins since Lloyd Loar walked the Gibson factory floor in the early 1920's. The model is certainly the most finely built F style mandolin available for anything close to double its price, and is among the most highly regarded Bluegrass mandolins on the market. It's tone is all that, with volume, cut, clarity, and maturity.

Collings' commitment to workmanship of the highest order is immediately obvious in the MF5. The instrument is exquisitely crafted -- with flawlessly glossed nitrocellulose lacquer finish, finely mitered ivoroid bindings throughout, masterfully carved top, back, and scroll, and some of the most attractive tone woods imaginable. The top is carved of quartered Adirondack Red spruce with absolutely perfect quarter, evenly spaced grain, and zero run-out; we've never seen such a perfect top. Back and sides are gorgeously flamed hard maple, with deeply accentuated -- almost iridescent -- grain. It's just a beautiful instrument.

1-1/8" bone nut, 13-7/8" scale, adjustable ebony bridge, 22 fret radiused fingerboard, pearl inlays and headstock flourish, Collings one-piece tailpiece, and nickel tuning machines with ivoroid buttons.
