1950 Gibson ES-175
Serial # A-5468, FON 3167-7 With its classic good looks, beautifully aged finish, and bold binding, this 1950 ES-175 is just a stunning guitar. Introduced in 1949, the 175 is Gibson's longest-running continually produced electric guitar, and this example dates from its second model year. The instrument is completely original but for aged replacement tuning machines and an aged bone nut -- both installed by our shop a few years back. It plays easily and perfectly, with level frets that show little wear, and an excellent set-up.
Laminate maple 16" hollow full depth cut-away body, sunburst finish, single P-90 pickup in the neck position, rosewood bridge and bound fingerboard, pearloid parallelogram inlays, and crown headstock inlay. Triple raised parallelogram nickel tailpiece, tall barrel knobs, and 5 ply pickguard. Tuning machines are covering up enlarged post holes and footprints left from the Grovers that were once on the guitar, and the headstock face shows the faint outline of the larger washer's footprints.
Round and comfortable early 1950's neck profile -- a little less substantial in feel to the necks on later 1950's Gibsons. 24.75" scale length, 1-11/16 nut width.
