1947 Gibson L-5

Serial # A-1084, An exquisite example, this early post-war L-5 features the pre-war pearl script headstock logo, original art-deco engraved tailpiece, and a rich sunburst finish. Figured maple carved back and matching sides, carved bookmatched spruce top, three-piece figured maple neck with multi-bound rosewood fingerboard, block inlays. Multi-layered body and headstock bindings, bound F-holes, tapered headstock.

In near-perfect condition, this L-5 shows little wear to its original finish, no cracks or repairs, and no modifications other than a very well made reproduction pickguard. Original Kluson Sealfast tuners, original frets and bridge, and the original nut has never been removed. Frets show little wear and play well; set-up is fast, with clean playability in all positions on the neck.

A lively, articulate, and warm 17" archtop, this L-5 has a three dimensional sound that's both melodic and choppy, depending on how you attack the strings. It does single note runs and chord comping equally well, and is a joy to listen to. The neck is heavenly, too, with about the most comfortable profile we can imagine.
