Joseph Yanuziello may be the most tasteful and distinctive luthier in
business today. He is one of the few makers equally respected for both
electric and acoustic instruments. His craftsmanship and detailing is
second-to-none.
Joe's line of electrics includes guitars, mandolins,
mandolas, mandocellos, and lapsteels; acoustics include resonators,
flattops, Weissenborns, and even stranger creations! A few of the players
using his instruments include: Kevin Breit (Norah Jones, etc, etc), Don
Rooke (The Henries), Burke Carrol (Bebop Cowboys, Brothers Cosmoline), Bill
Frisell, Pete Anderson, Lee Alexander (Norah Jones), Rob Pilch, Michael
Picket, the list goes on...

2006 Yanuziello KG-14
Another masterpiece from Joe Yanuziello. The Kalamazoo KG-14 was the budget version of Gibson's already budget L-00 model of the depression era. It was a simple guitar, with a single-bound sunburst top and unbound back and a bound soundhole but no rosette. The neck and bridge were the same as those on the L-00, but the top's ladder bracing was what really made the guitar less-expensive - it sounded cheaper than the X braced Gibsons. Enter Joe Yanuziello, among the most tasteful and talented luthiers on earth, with an order for a Kalamazoo KG-14 styled flat-top with the voice and bracing of an L-00. The end result? This meticulously built, flawlessly finished, and fine sounding instrument.
Its Adirondack spruce top is X braced exactly as were the L-00's of the mid 1930's - Yanuziello's brace pattern and carve are exactingly copied from an L-Century that sounded incredible. The Mahogany back and sides are bookmatched and quarter-sawn, and the single-piece neck is carved exactly like a 30's Gibson's would have been. The fingerboard and small rectangle bridge are of figured Brazilian rosewood, and the fire-stripe pickguard is very much reminiscent of those found on L-00's. the top's thin nitro finish is in Cremona sunburst, and the rest of the instrument is stained in Gibson reddish-brown. Finishing touches include Waverly tuners with ebony buttons, ebony nut and bridge pins, compensated bone through-saddle, a two-way adjustable truss rod, and white silk screened headstock logo. The nut is 1-3/4", the scale is 24.75".
This guitar is one of Yanuziello's finest sounding flat-tops. I'd take it over an L-00 most any day of the week. It is a 2006 guitar, and although it is pre-owned, I would not call it used.
With a deluxe TKL hard case

NEW Yanuziello Electric
Joe Yanuziello has amazed us again with the latest of his instruments.
Custom built for us at Folkway are this matched pair of lefty and righty
electrics in Mahogany and figured maple. Joe's electric instruments feature
an ultra light hollow body with handmade hardware and custom Lindy Fralin
pickups. They are versatile instruments that combine a retro look with
modern playability. The body is constructed of a one-piece hollowed
mahogany back mated to a bookmatched figured hard maple top that is bound
with a single-ply ivoroid strip. The pickups are custom-made Lindy Fralin
high output DeArmond-style single coils that offer up the sound of those
great late 50's Harmony pickups with modern string spacing and shielding.
The bridges and pickup housings are completely machined by Yanuziello
himself and designed entirely to the specifications that he requires for
these original instruments. The bridge / tailpiece combo is infinitely
adjustable, and mechanically perfect. The instrument is finished in a
hand-polished gloss Nitrocellulose lacquer, with a Viceroy-brown sunburst to
the top and matching back and neck. Ivoroid pickguard and knobs and
standard two-pickup switching. The neck profile is styled after a 50's Les
Paul Special and has that ultra-comfortable round and fairly beefy feel that
us vintage guitar freeks just die for. The fingerboard is ivoroid bound
Brazilian rosewood, as is the peghead overlay. Kluson Deluxe nickel tuners
with metal oval buttons bejewel the headstock and Joe's logo finishes off
the instrument with a final touch of class.
The scale length is 24.75" and the bone nut measures 1-11/16". The guitars
weigh in at a feathery 5.2 pounds. The tone is all vintage - imagine a
combination of an early Gretsch Duo-Jet, an Harmony Stratotone, and a 50's
Les Paul Special and you'll have a fairly good idea of what these guitars
are all about. In our minds they are the ideal guitars - vintage tone and
vibe and feel with modern playability, dependability... and a Warranty!
With custom fitted TKL 8900 Les-Paul shaped hard case.

NEW! Yanuziello Flattops!
There are many fine makers building modern versions of the great vintage
guitars. Joseph Yanuziello has just raised the bar by a good head.
Yanuziello has spent many years dissecting some of the coolest guitars ever
made and a conversation with him is always a learning experience, even for
us! Inspired by a lethal pair of guitars from our own collection, a 1934
Gibson Century of Progress and a 1934 L-00, Yanuziello chose to create a
pair of modern guitars to rival these ancestors. Upon full study of the
inner workings of these great old guitars, Yanuziello put his many years of
experience and his own impeccable taste for details deep into the heart of
these new creations. The dimensions and placement of the bracing, the feel
of the neck, the voicing of the plates, all of these were done with an
engineer's precision.

Yanuziello L-00 Koa Deluxe
We envisioned this guitar as a roundneck take on Joseph Yanuziello's
Hawaiian King acoustic slide guitars. With a body of first-rate curly Koa,
and the top purfled with hand-cut rope binding, this guitar will have a
unique appeal for lovers of the flashiest guitars of the 1930's. The lower
bout is 15 3/4" wide and the body is 4 1/4" deep at the tail. The full
vintage V neck has a 1 23/32" nut, the pyramid bridge has 2 5/16" spacing.
The slotted headstock has Sloan Waverley tuners and a unique minimalist
truss-rod cover. The soundboard has the full dome of the best Gibsons, and
the back is nearly flat. This combination is a large part of the secret
involved in getting the delicate warmth and punch of a great L-00. The
body, fingerboard and headstock are bound in a narrow strip of ivoroid, the
rope purfling is cut from ebony and holly. The fingerboard and bridge are
ebony. The fingerboard inlays are gold pearl, which harmonizes nicely with
the warm honey colours of the koa. This guitar has all the tone that its
handsome looks suggest. For anyone who loves smaller fingerstyle guitars,
this one will give balance and richness at any volume. Make no mistake:
this guitar has all the subtlety that a modern player can ask for. It comes
in a deluxe arched wooden case.

New Yanuziello Electric Mandolin
Whoa, there! I expected to sound like Kevin Breit when I fired this one up,
and what do you know...? It turns out that a good portion of Kevin's magic
with Norah Jones (and so many others) comes from the relentlessly awesome
instruments Joe Yanuziello has created for him. In short, I've never
sounded so much like a master until I wound this incredibly smooth little
monster all the way out! Joe builds the chambered body from solid mahogany
with a maple cap and mills the bridge and pickup cover completely by hand
from solid brass, which is then nickel plated. Every little detail is from
the hand of a world-class craftsman. The ivoroid binding and pickguard
follow a neo-cowboy esthetic over the flawless black nitrocellulose finish.
The headstock and fingerboard are matching pieces of old-growth Brazilian
rosewood. That's a custom-wound Lindy Fralin DeArmond-style pickup doing
the dirty work that Joe has Lindy custom-build for his instruments...
Yanuziello even customizes TKL hard cases to fit his mandolins! A hot
little number from one of the planet's best luthiers.

New Yanuziello Dobro
Probably Yanuziello's most popular model, this square neck dobro features
curly maple body, handspun Quarterman cone, Beard bridge and coverplate.
Yanuziello builds his resonators with a very light soundwell, with large
soundports, and I must say I have never heard a better dobro. Loud, rich
and full, without distracting overtones; this is clearly one of today's most
desirable professional resonator guitars. Aesthetically, there are few
makers who take this kind of care. Bound in ivoroid with wood rope
purfling, bound ebony fingerboard with classy diamond and arrows pattern,
Bound f-holes, and a masterfully done sunburst. This one has been marked
down from $3500, because of a small finish check on the back centerseam.
With lifetime warranty and hardshell case.

Yanuziello L-00 Custom
The finest Engelmann spruce and mahogany voice this guitar with remarkable
similarity to a 1930's L-00. The neck profile is full and vintage-feeling,
with a soft V. The nut is 1 23/32", the bridge spacing is 2 5/16", the
scale is 24 3/4". The body is 15 3/4" wide by 4 1/4" deep. The top
features the beautiful dome of a Gibson, the back is nearly flat, just as it
ought to be. The body, fingerboard, and headstock are bound in narrow
ivoroid. The bridge is identical to the ones Yanuziello uses on his
Hawaiian King models, delicately pyramid-ended, with a peaked belly. We've
always loved Joe's decal logo, which graces the narrow headstock with a
touch of Art Deco. The rosette is a single band of abalone, the fingerboard
inlays are cut from gold pearl. It has Waverley tuners with ivoroid
buttons. Joseph Yanuziello is famous for his fine finish work, and the
hand-rubbed lacquer on this guitar brings out a truly incredible glow in the
gentle sunburst. This guitar has a presence and stateliness that speak
before you play a note! A great even tone, to make any blues, ragtime, or
old-time player drool. This guitar is also suited to modern fingerstyle
playing, with a wide palette of tonal possibilities and a bright, quick
response. This guitar comes in a deluxe arched case.
