1981 Guild B-50 Bass
Serial # BA100150. Easily the largest guitar-like thing that’s ever resided at Folkway, this Guild bass has more air volume in its box than most bathtubs. At 18” wide by a whopping 6-3/4” deep, this acoustic bass would make Shaquille O’Neal look small. And then there’s the hardshell case it comes with… Anyway, if a an acoustic bass with a lot of volume is what you’re after, this one may do the trick. It’s pickup equipped, too, however we suspect feedback might become a bit of an issue. It’s in good shape, overall, but has had a neck-reset and a crack at the edge of the fingerboard repaired. Well set up, and easy to play. If you’re 6 feet tall, or more.
With original hard shell case

NEW Luis Mesquita Tenor Ukes
Luis Feu de Mesquita has built a worldwide reputation in short order. His instruments are expertly and meticulously built, and thoroughly though-out. There is no detail that escapes this luthier’s touch – even the tuning machines are reengineered to his specifications. The Amigo I and II tenor ukuleles offered here are small and wonderful works of art. Styled after the Selmer/Maccaferri guitars of the early 1930’s these ukes feature D shaped soundholes and venetian cutaways. Sitka spruce was used for the tops, and the backs and sides of both are Makore. The Amigo II features a soundport on the upper bass bout. With their excellent tone, fine craftsmanship, and perfect playability, these Tenor ukes are truly a cut above the rest.
With ultralight case
US $1999 Amigo I
US $2099 Amigo II

1964 Selmer Mark VI Tenor Sax
Serial # 120360. We’ll be the first to admit that selling saxophones is really not what we specialize in, but when this mint condition Selmer Mark VI Tenor showed up at our door we figured we really ought to try! The Mark VI tenor is pretty much THE tenor sax to have; more notable musicians are associated with this model than with any other saxophone. This example was bought new in Montreal in 1964 by the gentleman who brought it to Folkway. Babied throughout its life, and largely unused for the last 35 or so years, the instrument remains in nearly-new and quite perfect condition. A few pads were replaced in the early 1970’s, but that’s the end of this one’s repair history – no solder or repairs, original lacquer throughout, no dents. To add, the instrument is accompanied by its original Selmer Tray-pack case, Soloist C mouthpiece, Metal Standard C mouthpiece (both with ligatures and caps); clarinet case, original neck straps, and case ephemera. A rare gem.

1930 KeyKord
Tuned like a baritone ukulele and played sort of like an autoharp, the
KeyKord was the Depression-era's version of this generation's video game
"Guitar Hero". Push the buttons and strum, and thereby become a musician.
Ultimately, I think the 1930's version is a bit more cool.
Built by the Stromberg-Voisinet company (Kay) and sold by The KeyKord Banjo
Company of America, the KeyKord might have caught on if (a) they had
invented it 10 years earlier at the height of the ukulele craze, and (b) if
the depression didn't happen the same year it was introduced; these were not
inexpensive gadgets. They are, today, few and far between; and digging one
up in this kind of condition is a rare feat. Apart from an unfortunate (and
recent) unrepaired side-crack by the heel of the neck this instrument is in
100% perfect, mint condition. It's just never been used. The original case
is in similar shape, and included in the package is an original KeyKord
instruction book; again, in excellent shape. The instrument is not
currently playable, and ideally the buyer will opt to have us repair the
neck-joint / crack issue. But it is about as good a conversation piece as
it gets - and whether or not the crack is repaired won't change that!
