1953 Martin 0-18

Among the 1953-produced Martins built with a Vermont red spruce top, this little 0-18 packs a sonic punch above its class. The sound of red spruce on a post war Martin is unmistakable, with a punchy dryness that just doesn’t develop in a comparable Sitka-topped guitar. It’s responsive, woody, thick, and articulate, and offers tremendous headroom for an instrument of its size.

A beautiful guitar that presents incredibly well, this ’53 Martin 0-18 is crack free, but for a minor split at the pickguard’s inside margin, and in remarkably good shape. It does have an old, small (1/2 inch) side repair on the lower bass side and associated finish repair, but it blends in well and is easily forgotten. Viewing it from the front or back, this guitar appears to be in near-mint condition. Reset and saddle by our shop a few years back, the balance of the guitar is original and untouched. Playability is excellent with well-dressed original frets and an action of 5-6 64ths. The neck has a soft V / almost C carve and a nut width of 1-21/32”. Neck depth at the 1st fret is .862”. Original Kluson style 210 tuners work well, original nut.
