Martin's D-42 features the company’s highest-grade tone woods, Style 45 pearl top inlays, pearl snowflakes in the bridge, and pre-war style 45 fingerboard and headstock inlays. Antique white bindings to the body and fingerboard, style 45 backstrip, and gold vintage-style tuners. Sitka spruce top with forward shifted scalloped bracing, Indian rosewood back and sides, ebony fingerboard and bridge. By all accounts, the D-42 is a D-45 from the front, but without the extensive and expensive side and back pearl inlays.
